“Unlock Your Future: Practitioners Share ‘Career Hacking in the Digital Era’ Strategies for TBPK FPIK Undip Students”

On November 7, 2024, the Fisheries and Marine Technology and Business Study Program (TBPK) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) of Diponegoro University held a practical lecture on the theme “Career Hacking in the Digital Era.” The lecture was led by Medi Prasetyo, S.Pi, S.M., M.M., a Business & Career Advisor with over 10 years of experience in HR and career development, and currently serves as Deputy Director at Prasetiya Mulya, Jakarta. Medi is an alumnus of the 2009 class of the Fisheries Product Technology Study Program at FPIK Undip.

In his presentation, Medi Prasetyo emphasized the importance of career planning, which begins with self-understanding and clear career goals. He discussed the challenges many students face in choosing the right major, with surveys showing that 86% of Indonesian students feel they chose the wrong major when they first started college. Prasetyo also revealed that many companies prefer candidates with internship experience, portfolios, and professional certifications relevant to their field. Medi also introduced the concepts of personal branding and networking, which are crucial in the modern workplace. He encouraged students to write down their 30 career dreams and post them in a visible place. He also focused on developing soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and adaptability, which are highly sought after by the job market.

In an interactive session, Medi asked students to explore their career interests and aspirations by answering questions such as “What do you do that makes you lose track of time?” and “What is the biggest challenge you have overcome?” The goal was to help students better understand themselves and plan their future careers. This practical lecture is expected to provide TBPK students with insights and strategies for designing successful careers in the digital age, as well as prepare them to face global competition with the right skills and understanding of the world of work.
