PROFILE AND VISION OF STUDY PROGRAM

PROFILE

Indonesia is the largest archipelago and maritime country in the world, with a marine area of 5.8 million km2 and a coastline of 81,000 km. Potential fish resources reach 12.04 million tonnes per year with an MSY of around 10 million tonnes per year or reach around Rp 300 trillion per year if calculated at a price of Rp 30,000 per kilogram. There is also potential for aquaculture, processing, biotechnology, energy and tourism with a total economic potential of around IDR 19,840 trillion. The fisheries and marine sector provides employment for around 13.7% (19.18 million people) of the total workforce in Indonesia (140 million people). The fisheries and marine sector is therefore very important and a priority to be developed.

However, this potential has not been optimally utilised to improve the welfare of the Indonesian people, especially the frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged (3T) regions and coastal communities. Central Java is the province with the second poorest population in Java. Limited access to higher education is an obstacle for young people to develop their potential to improve their welfare and make a positive contribution to regional and national development.

In order to support the vision of the Golden Indonesia 2045 which aims to make Indonesia a developed and developing country in a sustainable manner, Diponegoro University (Undip) has a strong commitment to participate in playing an active role in poverty alleviation through the development of the fisheries sector. One of the strategic steps that can be taken is to provide opportunities for young people to get higher education in the field of fisheries and marine for free.

The Fisheries and Marine Technology and Business Study Program (TBPK) of Diponegoro University is opened as a medium to produce young people who are innovative, resilient and committed as well as professional in the field of marine fisheries. TBPK study program has a comprehensive and up-to-date curriculum, and is supported by qualified teaching staff and professionals/practitioners in their respective fields. Alumni of TBPK are expected to have the knowledge and skills/expertise needed to become entrepreneurs, managers, leaders and main drivers of fisheries and marine sector development in the Central Java region, 3T areas and island provinces.

VISION

The Fisheries and Marine Technology and Business Study Program has a vision to become the leading Study Program in Indonesia in 2035 in fisheries and marine industry and business innovation by producing graduates who excel in the field of modern, sustainable and environmentally friendly fisheries and marine technology and business.
